2016 was a big year of change. We were living and working in San Francisco, Dax as a marketing manager for a law firm and Laura in finance. We knew we weren’t going to stay there forever, but didn’t have any solid plans to leave. Then, a combination of the loss of Dax’s mother and our landlord offering to buy us out of our apartment led us to a major crossroad.
We decided to accept the buyout offer and left our jobs with open-ended plans to travel. We spent over 5 months visiting 4 continents and 20 different countries — and loved every minute of it! We tracked everything during our travels, both in our notebooks and on our personal blog, lovettsabroad.com.
Upon returning to the states we moved to Seattle, where the plan was to find new jobs and start a life…family, home, kids, and adopt some pets!
But we missed traveling. We missed setting our own schedules and seeing and learning from the world around us. We couldn’t fathom the idea of going back to a 9-5 with a commute, coming home and starting all over again the next day. So we decided we needed a new plan!
Many of our friends had reached out to us asking about our trip… how we planned it, where we went, how we afforded it, etc. We knew we could combine our passion of travel with the idea of helping others plan their own adventures, and thus, Alpaca The Bag was born!
